WHO:
My name is Edgar Aldric Purviance. I am an interdisciplinary artist and author.

WHAT:
As a person of transgender experience, my work centers my "unique" gender reality, which is immersed in my spirituality.

But it is my spirituality that is central to my work. A deep undercurrent is my belief in ghosts, reincarnation, and the power of spirits.

I frequently write about my life and experiences in the medium of free-form poetry and prose.

My art has been described as "dark" "mysterious" and so on.

WHY:
Doing art has always been natural for me. I began writing about my experiences first through journaling and comics, then through a series of online journals. My background was in my school's literary arts magazine, writing and journalism. I realized in a moment of despair that I could not entirely relate to the stories of other transgender people, so I set about writing my own book.

At the time, I was deeply immersed in private grief, which caused my work to take on a funerary mood. The book (Ghost Gender), to me, feels frantic and desperate, but also incredibly enlightening.

The following books center my odd experiences with dreams and other spiritual encounters. I think it is important for me to record what has been going on, so that I can be a witness to myself in This World. Publishing allows me to reach out into the void, crossing barriers of time and space, to reach other people, who may feel as unusual as I do.

I completed my BFA in Interdisciplinary Arts at California College of The Arts in Oakland, CA. I could never pick only one mode or medium of expression.

Obviously and naturally, I got into divination, or The Art of Communicating With The Unknown. I was fascinated by the aspect of chance and coincidence in these communications. This interest developed into creating my own tarot deck, which was unlike any other in existence. There are more tarot decks planned for the future.

I have since been writing autobiographical poetry books, as means of processing my life experiences. It is of the utmost importance to share my life with others.

WHERE:
EAP spent much of his life in California, and now resides in Washington.

WHEN:
I have been actively making art my entire life, but especially in the last 20 years: the post-millennium era.
