Saga of the skinsuit

So I'm sewing a skinsuit for my doll. I want to protect the vinyl with a covering, basically.
I'm thinking, easy, right? No. Patterns are hard. I traced my doll, cut out a bunch of paper and fabric, and came upon the need for like four pieces of fabric. I looked at a pattern on my phone. It was hardly enough to teach me.
Front and back of the suit I ended up with:

So I'm learning why this doesn't work. I knew it wouldn't work, but I need to know why. My tracing is flat, the doll is three-dimensional. Duh. It is both too tight, and too loose. I need to change my pattern! There's no crotch because I would need another piece of fabric and this isn't worth "finishing" like that (and I can't currently figure it out.)
I am normally a "draper" when it comes to fabrics and sewing. But I want to sew way better than I do now.
Literally I just need to start somewhere so I can get better at it.
I'm wondering if I would get the stretch I'd need in its final fabric form. But I want this to look nicer before using that material. But this canvas is rough. It's like jeans. All my pattern tests might fail, because I'm using the wrong material. I have to use what we have, though.
This is as far as I'm going to get today.
I'll update this post as I work.
